Dissimilar welding of high-entropy alloy to Inconel 718 superalloy for structural applications

Abstract High-entropy alloy, a new generation material, exhibits superior structural properties. For high-temperature applications, where dissimilar materials are in demand, HEAs may be joined with commercially available to improve their performance-life ratio. In this connection, joint was fabricated by gas tungsten arc welding between Al 0.1 CoCrFeNi-HEA and Inconel 718. The columnar dendritic grains growing epitaxially at the CoCrFeNi-HEA/weld metal interface, compositions matching. While composition misfit weld metal/Inconel 718 reveals non-epitaxial mode of solidification. addition, fusion zone porosity micro-segregation NbC Laves phases. shows efficiency ~ 88%, strength is observed 644 MPa 21% ductility. results demonstrate applicability GTAW fabricating joints HEA for applications.
